Have You Checked Your Smoke Detectors and Other Items in Your Home?

Laurie Coello • Mar 15, 2022

Check and Test the following items every year!

Inside:

  1. Test each Smoke Detector: You should have one smoke detector in each bedroom and each level of your home.
  2. Test each C02: If you have any gas appliance or a fireplace in your home you should have a C02 on each level.
  3. Call the Gas Company every year to come out for an inspection of all your gas appliances.
  4. Check under each sink in the house to see if there are any leaks.
  5. Check all bathroom showers, sinks and toilets for running water and/or leaks. Running water inside toilets will increase your water bill.
  6. Replace your furnace filter every year, regardless if you use it or not.  Dust and debris can build inside the filters.
  7. Check your dryer vent AND hose that goes out of the home.  If your dryer is not drying as well as it use to then you could have build up in your dryer and hose.  Contact a company such as Lint Busters 101. This is very important as it is a potential fire hazard.
  8. Check your bathroom fans for dust. Open up your cover and see if it needs to be dusted out. This is very important as it is a potenial fire hazard.
  9. Check your kitchen appliances to make sure they are clean and free of pests.

Outside:

  1. Walk around the home and see if your screens are damaged or missing.
  2. Check hose bibs for leaks.
  3. Check sprinklers to make sure they are not broken or spraying against the home.
  4. Make sure your landscape is cared for and watered.
  5. Clean your trash cans to keep rodents, roaches etc from wanting to set up home.

This list is not inclusive of all items that should be checked. Please comment below and let us know what else we can add!
